Hunger in New York

This past week I had an opportunity to visit New York City for work appointments.  While visiting New York, I decided to conduct some research on hunger and food insecurity statewide.  What I found was both eye opening and saddening.

Here are some key stats from my research:

  • Between 1.2 and 1.4 million New Yorkers are food insecure in New York City representing a food insecurity rate of around 15%
  • 2.8 million people are food insecure across the state of New York representing a rate between 10.4% to 14%
  • The child hunger rate in New York City is 25% (1 in 4) and 20% statewide (1 in 5)
  • The poverty rate in New York city is around 25% (over 2 million people) and 15% to 17% for the entire state

Communities all around the country and places all over the world are struggling with hunger.  Our goal at F4 is to create “Hunger Awareness” and provide avenues to help address these challenges through volunteer opportunities and focused monetary donations.  Please follow us on social media, and subscribe to our newsletter and YouTube channel for important updates on hunger and food insecurity in the US and beyond.
